DeGraff OH: (7/24): Shady Bowl Speedway was packed to capacity
Saturday for the running of its first of two trailer races scheduled
for this season. A full field of over 30 brave souls took the green
in cars, pick up trucks and motorhomes, with utility trailers,
campers and boats in tow. It was wild scene at the drop of the green
as destruction was the best way to describe the action. It just a
few laps the track was littered with debris from all the crashes.
The race took nearly an hour to decide the winner, with Elliot
Dittier being crowned the winner by virtue of being the last car
running.
The
track also hosted three classes of stock cars in competition. The
Modifieds took to the track first. Sidney driver Rodney Roush led
the field into turn one at the start with Brian Brandyberry running
second. The running order did not change the entire 25 laps as Roush
in his "Elias Special" won his second straight feature. Brandyberry
finished second, with Chad Poole third. Poole tries several times to
move up, but was unable to make his car work on the high groove.
Gary Eaton and Rob Yelton rounded out the top five. Poole was the
winner of the dash, with Austin Troyer winning his second career
heat race.
In
compact action Steven Salyer of New Carlisle held off fast qualifier
and new track record holder Mason Patrick to win the 20 lap feature.
The week was a long one for the Salyer crew, as they had major
repair work on the Thumpers Auto Glass Beretta after a hard crash
the week before. Matt Stone, Todd Trevine and David Yoder rounded
out the top five. Jim Massengill won the first heat, with Dustin
Young taking heat two.
The
sport stock feature was a wild event with a red flag on lap four
when Aaron Pippin made contact with Rodney Roush putting both cars
into and nearly over the second turn wall. Both drivers were OK, but
the cars were towed from the track with heavy damage. Larry Adams
paced the field early before being passed by fast qualifiier Jesse
Gade. Gade went on to put his NAPA stocker home first, followed by
Richard Roush, Chris Abbott, Adams and Steve Hursey. Buck Purtee
carried the checker for the heat race.
This
Saturday (7/31) the Bowl will feature a 50 lap late model feature
with $1000.00 awaiting the winner. The Modifieds, Sport Stocks,
Pro-4's, Dwarf Cars and Compacts will also be on the schedule.
Racing will start at 7.
