Yelton Tops Shady Bowl Late Models
July 17, 2010

DeGraff OH (7/17). It was KTH Night at Shady Bowl Speedway Saturday with one of the best crowds of the season on hand to view the night of speed.

Rob Yelton continued his hot streak in the late model class by taking the checker for the seventh time this season. Jason Dillon set the pace early in the event before a red flag flew when Tim Allen crashed heavily into the frontchute wall . Allen was uninjured but his car suffered heavy damage. Dillon took over the lead again on the restart only to be overtaken by Yelton in his Toms Service Barn backed racer. Yelton once again proved to be the class of the field as he crossed the finish line on lap 25 followed by Chris Parker, Buck Purtee, Brandon Bayse and Jerry Nagel. Nagel and Brad Coons collected heat wins.

The 25 lap Modified main saw Sidney's Rodney Roush lead the field into turn one. Roush, behind the wheel of "The Elias Special" put his open wheeler in the low groove and took command as the laps began to count down.  Roush flew under the checkered flag to take his first win of the season followed by a pack of cars led by Brian Brandyberry, Chad Poole, Rob Yelton and Joe Pequinot. Pequinot won the dash, with Austin Troyer winning the heat.

The 20 lap sport stock feature was a little short on cars, but it seemed as if they all made contact with one another at some point. When all the dust had cleared Chad Fiessinger of Fort Loramie was in victory lane in his Apex Aluminum Camaro. The win was far from easy as he survived a late race charge by Jesse Gade to win by mere inches. Rodney Roush, Aaron Pippin and Robert Roush rounded out the top five. Pippin carried the checker for the heat race.

In Ohio Valley Dwarf Car Association racing, Daniel Wirrick took over the lead from Jerry Russell shortly after the halfway point to post the win in his Wirrick Farms racer. Russell, Bob Bayse, Josh Sage and Jesse Gade finished second thru fifth. Bayse was the winner in heat action.

The Pro-4 main saw Houston's Steve Clarkson power his Rosewood Machine stocker to victory lane. The win was a welcome for Clarkson who had a season marred by tough luck. Rodney Schrack had a great night with his runner up spot plus a heat win. Tom Voyles was third, with Dave Sage fourth and Randy Human fifth.

In compact action it was a familiar sight after the checker, as Mason Patrick once again put his Kirby Auto Parts Ford Probe into victory lane twice by winning the heat and feature.  Matt Stone, Jordon Sage, Todd Turvine and Jim Massengill rounded out the top five.

This Saturday (7/24) will mark on of the highlights of the season when the track is taken over by the Trailer, Boat and Camper Race. The 09 race saw a huge turnout of fans and entrants to watch and participate in the craziness. The Modifieds, Sport Stocks and Compacts will also be in action. Racing will start at 7.
