POOLE TAKES SHADY BOWL OPENER

DeGraff OH (4/5) Shady Bowl Speedway kicked off its 08 racing season Saturday under cool damp conditions. The racing action was great, as six divisions of stock cars were in competition.

The late models were the first to take to the rural oval with Jesse Gade leading the field to the green flag. Gade led the first three laps before fast qualifier Mark Parker took over the lead. The West Liberty high school student led the balance of the way to notch his second career feature win. Parker was behind the wheel of the family owned Ford sponsored by Lucky 7 Sports. Shawn Stansell, Rodney Roush, Craig Borland and Gade rounded out the top five.

The 25 lap modified main veteran driver Terry Humphrey lead the first three counters before Springfields Chad Poole took over the helm. Poole  then set sail for the checker in his C&A  Auto Service backed racer. Poole dominated the final portion of the race before a late race surge put Humphrey back on his rear bumper . Humphrey ran out of laps however and could only watch as Poole took the checker. Rookie Brad Yelton turned in a strong performance to finish third. Chris Parker and Jim Lewis Jr, rounded out the top five.

In sport stack racing, Plain City’s Richard Roush posed for photos in victory lane after surviving a wild event . The 20 lapper saw plenty of bump and run action before Roush finally put his S&B Towing Camaro out front for good. Aaron Pippen, Jason Purtee , Chuck Kemp and Larry Adams finished second thru fifth.

The 20 lap Dwarf car main was won by West Liberty’s Bill Hostetler. Hostetler took advantage of early leader Brandon Bayse’s breakdown to post the win. Rob Dutra was second, with Bob Bayse third, Daniel Wirrick fourth and Kelsey Knoebler fifth. Hostetler also won the heat race.

The Pro-4 headliner saw Houston’s Steve Clarkson take advantage of a spin involving leader Zak Larinore and second place running Dave Sage to bring his Rosewood Machine and Tool backed Ford home first. Larimore held on for second, with Dave Sage third, Josh Sage fourth, and Ken Snyder fifth.

The final feature was the compact 15 lapper and it turned out to be the best race of the night, Justin Durflinger led the start of the last lap with Dave Sage second and Steven Salyer third. A checker flag dash saw the leaders encounter lapped traffic that shuffled Durflinger back to third, with Sage and Salyer slipping by in that order. Sage, a Piqua native was driving the Dans’s BP sponsored racer. David Yoder wound up fourth, with Jerry Ellis Jr. fifth.

This Saturday (4/12) the Bowl will play host to the same divisions of cars. It will also be Dayton Auto Racing Fan Club night, with all members of the club admitted free. Racing is set to start at 7.
